Assam is a state located in the North-East region of India. Most tea grown in Assam is usually processed as black tea, and it is widely used for Breakfast blend teas. This tea is commonly grown in the lowlands, unlike Darjeeling varieties. Grown very near sea level, the rich clay soil is ideal for tea plant cultivation. The tropical climates during summer, and generally cooler winters also lend to an excellent yield per plantation each year.
The tea produced in Assam is characterised by a rich, malty flavour and strong colour.
