The Wuyi mountains are found in the Fujian Province, on the South-East coast of mainland China. Many black and oolong teas are produced within the mountain range, however it is actually the original home of Lapsang Souchong, unfortunately for tea drinkers, the demand for tea grown in this small cultivated area have made it increasingly expensive to purchase.
Characteristically, teas from the region are heavily fired or oxidised during production, with distinct smoky flavours and notes of stone fruits.
Tea grown at a lower elevation in the region is luckily still available to the western market in limited quantities. We have been very fortunate in being able to source tea from the Wuyi mountains.
