Zhejiang is one of China’s most economically advanced provinces, often known as the land of silk and tea.
The subtropical climate and undulating hills found in this region are perfect for green tea cultivation. Unfortunately for us, industrialisation of the region has reduced Zhejiang’s tea production, and yet it still counts for half of China’s tea production. During the 1950’s, large areas of land were rehabilitated to start producing tea again and bring new young tea plants to maturity.
To this day, it is renowned for producing excellent quality gunpowder green teas, and is where we source ours. The gunpowder tea grown and processed here shows its quality by the soft sheen that can be seen in the leaves. Once brewed you may also see the unfurled full leaf of the tea, again denoting its quality.
