Mr Sailen, Latumoni Estate
|Varietal:||FTGFOP1. Seed Plants + T17 clones|
This golden tippy black tea is handcrafted on Latumoni Estate in Assam, India. It is one of the finest Assam black teas produced in the region, with an abundance of golden tippy leaves throughout. It was hand picked on the 5th June 2020 (Assam's summer season) from a mix of seed plants and T17 clones. The plants are grown at an elevation of 120m above sea level. This particular tea came from a batch of 60kg.
This is an exquisite tea and one of the best Assam black teas we have ever tasted. It produces an incredibly complex flavour and aroma, however still contains all of the base flavours you would associate with a classic Assam black tea. Expect tangy fruit undertones and incredibly low astringency in its flavour. The aroma is of dark chocolate and subtle hints of coffee.
Latumoni Estate was planted by the late Mr Ramesh and his son Mr Sailen in the early 90's, just as tea plantation rules in India were becoming more liberal. Small holders were now allowed to grow their own tea plants to sell to the large, established factories throughout the region. Measuring roughly 2 acres in size, all of the teas produced on the estate are processed entirely by hand. Today, Mr Sailen uses natural and sustainable farming techniques, which means that this tea is classified as non-certified organic.
This tea should not taken with milk and sugar. Rather, due to its fine quality it should be enjoyed black.
