Season: 04/10/2019

Tong Mu Guan Village (桐木关)

Country: China

This is an unsmoked variety of the classic pinewood smoked Lapsang Souchong. By leaving it unsmoked, the Chen family hope to showcase more of the teas natural essence.

It is an excellent example of Chinese black tea, made from pickings of one bud and two leaves. Trees of around 40 years of age, which grow wild on the hillsides are used for its production. This lapsang has been harvested a little later than usual. Because of this, it has slightly thicker, hardier leaves than previous harvests.

The appearance of the leaf is long and wiry when dried, with a peachy scent. When brewed, this tea has incredible depth of flavour, with notes of ripe peach, giving way to a creaminess. It has a smooth malt note with zero astringency. This tea can also age very nicely under the right conditions.
