Gaiwan #2

£60

A hand made gaiwan, perfect for brewing your favourite whole leaf teas. The term gaiwan ( Chinese: 蓋碗 ) is the romanization of Mandarin Chinese pronunciation for the term that means “lidded bowl”. Approx 100ml capacity.

In tea, a gaiwan is used popularly as a vessel for drinking from, or as one where the tea is infused in. Sometimes both purposes at the same time.Popular sizes of this vessel range from 70ml to 160ml. They are very often used in gongfu infusion approaches and in teashops for quick tasting.

Local manufacture means a lot to us. This teapot was made by our in-house potter, Will Farquhar during his residency at our Heaton teashop. Using traditional pottery techniques and a bespoke glaze for Estate Tea Co, these teapots are truly one of a kind. Because of the handmade nature of these teapots, each one will vary slightly in size, shape and glaze.
